Parker Kelly’s Grand Slam Leads Texas Tech Baseball Series Split with Mississippi State
Parker Kelly is In. The. Zone.
There's no other explanation as Thursday evening he hit his third grand slam, and fifth home run, over the past five days. Kelly's grand slam in the second inning of Thursday's game against Mississippi State gave Texas Tech a 4-0 lead, and the Red Raiders went on to beat the Bulldogs 7-2.
Kelly is a fifth-year Super Senior for the Red Raiders, starting at third base for the second consecutive season. After going 3-for-4 at the plate on Thursday, he raised his 2022 batting average to .405 in 12 games with 5 home runs and 19 RBI.
Texas Tech Baseball notes that the last Red Raider to hit three grand slams in a whole season was Cameron Blair in both 2004 and 2005.
Meanwhile, also in Thursday's game, Texas Tech starting pitcher Jamie Hitt (W, 1-0) pitched a career-high four innings and held the Bulldogs to no runs and just three baserunners.
Jase Lopez, Derek Bridges, and Brendan Girton were the final three pitchers out of the bullpen for Texas Tech. They pitched a combined four innings and held the Bulldogs scoreless to shut the door on Thursday's game.
Texas Tech has an off-day on Thursday and will travel from Biloxi to Houston. Then, on Friday, the Red Raiders begin a three-game series at former Southwest Conference rival, Rice. Friday night's game is set for a first pitch at 6:30 p.m. from Reckling Park. Saturday's game will be played at 2 p.m. and Sunday's game is set for 1 p.m., also at Reckling Park. All three games will be streamed online at C-USA.TV.
