Update: The Lubbock Police Department has released the identity of the man killed in the accident: 20-year-old Jericho Garcia.
Original story: Lubbock police responded to a one-vehicle accident Friday morning (Nov. 16th) on the access road near 12th Street and West Loop 289.
Just after 2:15 a.m., police and EMS discovered one person dead at the scene.
The fatality is said to have been the driver of the vehicle, which police also say had flipped over. The identity of the driver has yet to be released.
It's unclear exactly what caused the accident, but the Lubbock Police Department has released a statement, suggesting the vehicle was driving southbound on the access road when it lost control, flipped, and hit a retaining wall.
For at least four hours after the accident, police officials closed down the access road between 12th Street and Frankford Avenue to investigate the scene and gather evidence.
The driver, pronounced dead at the scene, is the only person involved in the one-vehicle accident.
