Lubbock Police continue their investigation into a crash that left one dead, two injured and another in jail the morning of Thursday, August 19th.

It all happened at around 12:45 a.m.

A Ford F-550, driven by 30-year-old Timothy Andrew Gonzalez, was traveling southbound in the 6100 block of Slide Road as a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 20-year-old Alexus Jackson, was traveling westbound in the 5100 block of the South Loop 289 access road.

Police say that the Ford struck the Jeep in the intersection, and debris from the crash happened to strike 21-year-old Nathaniel Ruiz as he was walking along the sidewalk in between Slide Road and the turn-around lane for the South Loop 289 access road. Gonzalez was said to have failed to stop and render aid, fleeing northbound on foot along Slide Road. He was eventually taken into custody behind Crunch Fitness.

The passenger in the Jeep, 17-year-old Kashara Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene while Jackson was transported to University Medical Center with moderate injuries. Ruiz only suffered minor injuries from being struck by the debris.

Gonzalez remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center for intoxication manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid and evading arrest.

This case remains under investigation by the Major Crash Investigation Unit.
