Texas A&M put behind a summer of conference realignment and secession by defeating Southern Methodist 46-14 Sunday night in front of a season opening record crowd of 86,951 at Kyle Field in College Station.

The Aggies intercepted SMU quarterback Kyle Padron on the Mustangs first two possessions which led to two early Aggie touchdowns and Padron getting benched for the rest of the game with J.J. McDermott going 21-34 for 254 yards and a score.

Ryan Tannehill went 21-26 for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns while Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael led the Aggie rushing attack rushing for 132 yards and 85 yards respectively.
