Newly hired Texas Tech assistant baseball coach J-Bob Thomas joined the Williams and Hyatt Show from the road Thursday afternoon to discuss his hire to the Red Raider staff, his familiarity with head-coach Tim Tadlock and more.

Tadlock announced the addition of Thomas on Wednesday. He will work primarily with the Red Raiders catchers and assist with the team’s hitters.

The 29-year-old Thomas spent the previous seven seasons as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Howard College.

Hyatt started the Q&A segment by asking “How easy was it for Tim Tadlock to convince you to make the move from Howard up to Texas Tech?”

“It was pretty easy,” Thomas said. “You know I’ve gotten to know coach Tadlock for the last 10-15 years. He actually recruited me in junior college when he was at Grayson and we’ve kept in touch.”

During his time at Howard, Thomas helped turn the Hawks into the winningest Division I junior college program in the nation (247 wins - averaged 49 wins a season) while winning the NJCAA D-I World Series in 2009.
