New Hit Broadway Musical ‘Anastasia’ Is Coming to Lubbock
Another amazing show is coming to Lubbock and it is something new!
It's called Anastasia and it's a new Broadway musical that takes you back to "the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat."
In Anastasia, they embark on an adventure of a lifetime to help her find home, love, and family. It's put on by the Tony Award-winning creators of the Broadway classic, Ragtime.
This musical started back in 2017 on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre. The show has sold out for more than three years before expanding. Globally, the show has been performed more than 2,500 times and sold 3.4 million tickets. It's won awards like a Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards and Best New Musical in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.
NBC said this about the play: "Ahrens and Flaherty have chosen the right moments to musicalize, and their score here sounds complete and full — one of the season’s strongest!"
Time Out wrote: "Smartly adapted by Terrence McNally, Anastasia is a sweeping adventure, romance and historical epic whose fine craftsmanship will satisfy musical-theater fans."
The show will before for two days, on June 20th and 21st, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. The show runs for 2 hours and 25 minutes with a 15-minute intermission. Tickets cost from about $35 to $125.
