The crisis at the U.S. Mexico border continues to worsen as more and more migrant children make their way into the custody of the Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
According to ABC News, more than 100,400 migrants have been apprehended at the border over the last 30 days. More than 4,200 migrant kids were in custody as of this week and the CBP reports that more than 500 more are arriving every day and most of them are being held well beyond the 72 hours allowed by law.
The sudden surge of migrants is threatening to overwhelm the system, and some say it already has. An "Emergency Intake Site", as described by ABC News, has been set up in Midland and will be used to process up to 700 migrant children for the coming weeks and possibly months.

Republican Congressman August Pfluger of House District 11, which encompasses San Angelo, Midland, and other portions of Central Texas, told one news outlet that Midland County officials were blindsided by the plan to house migrant kids in their county.
Pfluger told CBS 7 in El Paso that the chaos is partly the fault of the Biden administration, "They don't have a plan for how to keep our country secure. I think it really signals the lack of willingness to identify and call this for what it is."
The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in downtown Dallas is also being repurposed to house a number of migrant boys between the ages of 15 and 17, and it's possible other Texas cities could start to see migrants heading to their counties.
