After the Texas Tech Spring Game that had a glaring absence of star wide receiver Erik Ezukanma, Matt Wells was asked if the veteran player was out with an injury.

Wells confirmed that Ezukanma suffered a broken arm in practice and would be using the summer to recover.  Ezukanma has already had a successful surgery. Similar injuries take anywhere from three to six months to heal.

The news comes after a Texas Tech Spring Game in which JJ Sparkman and Trey Cleveland had a few big catches down the sideline. Jerand Bradley also had some nice catches. Those three, along with Loic Fouonji, will be the biggest options to replace Ezukanma early in the year next year if he ends up missing anytime. Wells was confident Ezukanma would indeed play next season but qualified that it depends on how he heals on the ultimate timeline. Said they would know more in six weeks.

The rest of the Spring Game saw some decent action but was devoid of the big plays that usually dot the spring game. Four quarterbacks got some snaps in against various levels of Texas Tech defense. Henry Colombi started both live periods and led a touchdown drive that was capped by a Tahj Brooks touchdown. Both Xavier White and SaRodorick Thompson were out today, so the bulk of the work landed on Brooks and Chadarius Townsend.

Tyler Shough led a field goal drive to end the first live period with both Jonathan Garibay and Trey Wolff stroking it through the uprights.

The third Texas Tech offensive score came after a big throw from Donovan Smith to Sparkman got the Red Raiders down to the 11-yard line. The Texas Tech defense nearly held but a 4th down throw from Smith found Bradley across the middle for the score.
