Lubbock’s Newest Taco Casa Location Is About to Open

On this Taco Tuesday (or whenever you read this), we must recognize another new option for indulgence in the Taco Tuesday phenomenon.

A nuevo Taco Casa? ¡Muy bueno!

Signage is up and construction is feverish at Lubbock's second Taco Casa location, located at 8720 University Avenue.

The Fort Worth-based chain, with 81 locations throughout Texas and Oklahoma, is doubling up in the Hub City after the success of their first location on 82nd Street. The new Taco Casa location is directly across from Chik-fil-A on University, between 82nd and 98th, and next door to Shipley's Donuts.

Construction inside was at full-speed when I drove by this week. A banner also solicited new hires to staff the store. If you wish to apply, you can do so at TacoCasaTexas.com.

As for a grand opening date, the Taco Casa website still lists the location as 'Opening Soon,' yet when I stopped for a closer look, an unnamed source familiar with construction stated that it appeared that the doors could be open to the public "in a couple of weeks." Since my source was wearing a hard hat at the time, I have no reason to doubt the validity of this information.

As a resident of South Lubbock, this is a welcome sight. I've certainly had my share of fast food tacos in my life, and yes, my wife and I own a chihuahua that resembles (vaguely) the one that starred in the infamous "Yo Quiero Taco Bell" commercials.

Having another option is a great thing, and again proves that South Lubbock is where it's at these days in the Hub City.
