The shooting happened near 3rd Street and Avenue T in the afternoon, KAMC News reports.

The police reports says that the victim's girlfriend, who has yet to be publicly identified by police or any news sources, arrived at the location and saw them in the parking lot "screaming in pain." The victim, identified now as Joel Ray Garcia, was taken to Covenant Medical Center by an unidentified friend.

Police are still attempting to identify the unknown friend using hospital surveillance images.

When police eventually arrived at the Covenant emergency room, Garcia was unconscious. He was last listed in critical but stable condition.

Lubbock Police went to a set of apartments at 303 Avenue T to investigate the shooting, but as of the writing of this article, officers haven't been able to find the original crime scene or any witnesses. What exactly led up to the shooting has yet to be determined by local police.

Garza has been reported to be homeless, but it's reported he spends a lot of his time at one of the apartment units.

An update on any suspects or Garcia's condition will be given once that information has been made readily available.
