Lubbock Roads May Soon Become Hazardous Due to Winter Storm
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service Office for the South Plains, including the City of Lubbock, which will go into effect at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4th and last until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5th.
This storm system is expected to bring the possibility of heavy snow with accumulation amounts ranging from 3 to 5 inches. Some areas will start with rainfall Tuesday afternoon before a strong surge of cold air transitions precipitation into snow.
Icy roadways will be likely, especially on overpasses and bridges. Should the snowfall amounts that are forecast accumulate to more than 2 inches, roadways will look similar to that of the event known as Lubbock's Snowmaggedon in the winter of 2015.
It will be important to stay weather aware and tuned in to your preferred weather professionals this week in order to determine if travel is necessary enough to brave what could be some messy and dangerous road conditions.
