The Lubbock Police Department has identified the person killed in a hit-and-run on Monday, Nov. 16.

70-year-old Benigno Salas was riding his motorcycle in the 3200 block of East 4th Street on Monday at about 1:40 p.m., when he was hit by a maroon 4-door passenger car at the intersection with Idalou Road.

KAMC News reports that Salas suffered serious injuries in the accident and was taken to University Medical Center, but did not survive, and was later pronounced dead at UMC.

The LPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit says the car involved in the accident fled the scene heading eastbound on East 4th Street.

No suspects have been named and an investigation is still ongoing. If you have any information on who may be responsible, contact the LPD at 806-775-2753.

Lubbock police also investigated a hit-and-run involving one of their own officers back on September 20, 2020. An officer responding to a call was rear-ended by someone in the 2600 block of Avenue L just after 9:30 p.m.

The person responsible was driving a Chevy Silverado and was able to escape on foot before other officers could arrive at the scene. A suspect has still not been identified in that case.
