On Monday (Oct. 28), a Lubbock man was arrested for possessing an illegal weapon. According to an LPD arrest warrant, an officer pulled over a passenger vehicle in the 1000 block of North Indiana.

According to the warrant, the driver, identified as 22-year-old Jacob Pereida, was visibly nervous when speaking with the officer who asked why the car interior smelled like marijuana.

Pereida admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier in the day and a search of his vehicle revealed a handgun and an illegal sawed-off shotgun. Pereida was arrested and charged with possessing a prohibited weapon.

It isn't Pereida's first arrest related to firearms. According to KAMC News, Pereida was arrested in 2015 and later indicted for being involved in an attempted robbery and a shootout outside of Fred's Gun Emporium, located in the 3000 block of Slide Road.

Pereida eventually pled guilty for possessing a stolen firearm used in the shootout and was sentenced to 12 months in prison. In 2017, after his release, Pereida was ordered back to prison for possessing cocaine, which violated the conditions of his supervised release.
