The Lubbock High School Westerners Marching Band is one of just five area marching bands headed to state competition.

The band competed alongside several other area bands in the competition on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 in Odessa, Texas. The competition marked the finals for the area, with bands competing for the chance to travel to San Antonio in November for the state competition.

Following a rousing performance that began with music from the classic horror film The Exorcist, the band waited in the bleachers, anxious to hear if they had made the cut.

The video above, shot by Stacey Sayers Benton, shows the moment when the band hears their name called out.

The Lubbock High School marching band was one of just five high school marching bands to make the cut. The four other marching bands are: El Paso Bel Air, El Paso De Valle, El Paso Hanks and El Paso Horizon.
