Late Wednesday, Lubbock ISD announced a mid-season resignation with a Lubbock High School athletic team.

Brad Blalock has resigned from leading the Lubbock High Lady Westerner basketball team, effective immediately.

Blalock released a statement through Lubbock ISD,  “I came to Lubbock High wanting to build the women’s basketball program. This has been a frustrating season for me and for my players. For a coach, sometimes the best thing you can do for a program is to walk away and give your student athletes a fresh start. I’ve decided it’s in the best interest of my team and my family for me to resign as the head coach of Lubbock High women’s basketball. I want them to continue to grow and compete at the highest levels.”

George Watson of The High School Experience, reports that Blalock's interim replacement is assistant coach Kenzie Kinard. The Westerner Girls record is 5-13 overall and 0-6 in District 4-4A.

Blalock will continue to be employed by Lubbock ISD through the end of his current contract.
