Lubbock Christian University Baseball defeated Texas Tech last night 6-5 at Rip Griffin Park.

The Chaps jumped on Red Raider ace Trey Masek plating three runs in the first three innings off a Brennan Smith hit an RBI triple to start the scoring for LCU in the 2nd. Smith would come back in the 3rd inning to bring in another run off an RBI single to give LCU a 3-1 lead.

Tech would rally in the 7th inning trailing 5-2 by scoring three runs to tie the game after two bases loaded walks and a fielder’s choice. LCU would score the winning run in the 9th off a Brent Leslie sacrifice fly.

LCU leads the all-time series 20-16 and have a 12-12 record against Tech at Dan Law Field and Rip Griffin Park. The previous time LCU beat Tech was on April 14, 1993.

LCU improves to 32-13 overall and snapping a four-game losing streak while Texas Tech’s collapse continues with their sixth straight loss and tenth loss in twelve games.Tech is 17-19 on the season.

Tech next plays Rice for a two game midweek series starting tomorrow while LCU will return to Sooner Athletic Conference play this weekend against Rogers State.
