Disturbing New Details Come Out in Lubbock Child Neglect Case
A little girl found alone on a street in Lubbock lived in a veritable dump full of trash, feces and moldy food, according to CPS and court records.
According to court records (via Everything Lubbock), a CPS employee visited the home of the 4-year-girl who was found alone on 24th Street and Milwaukee Avenue late Sunday night (Oct. 23). The girl was noticed by a driver, who contacted police.
After obtaining information on where the little girl lived, officers arrested her father, 30-year-old Douglas Pruitt. Police say Pruitt was asleep and intoxicated when they visited his home.
Court records revealed that a CPS officer later walked through the home to assess it.
[A CPS worker] noticed a strong aroma of dog feces at the residence. [The]worker observed the residence to be in disarray. [CPS] observed trash all over the floors, shoes and cat litter on the floor and in the bath tub, a used diaper on the floor, and the pantry floor covered in a white substance. [CPS] observed the refrigerator to have vegetables with a black moldy substance on them, and the base of the refrigerator was covered in a black moldy substance as well. [CPS] observed a pile of clothes on the table in the living room.
Pruitt was charged with Abandoning or Neglecting a Child. He bonded out of the Lubbock County Detention Center Tuesday. Both Pruitt and the girl's mother, Meaghan Howard, will appear in court with CPS on Tuesday, November 1.
