Lady Chaps Celebrated National Title Win With a Midnight Trip to Steak ‘n Shake [Video]
You've just capped your perfect season with a NCAA national title. What do you do to celebrate? If you're the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps basketball team, you grab a late-night bite at Steak 'n Shake.
The Lady Chaps became the first NCAA program ever to win a Division II National Title in its first season of eligibility with their 78-73 win against the University of Alaska Anchorage in Indianapolis, Indiana on Monday, April 4. The victory placed the Lady Chaps in a very small group of teams to hold a perfect season and was also the program's first-ever Division II National Championship.
But despite setting all those records on one of the most exciting nights of their lives, the Lady Chaps kept it simple when it came time to unwind and have a victory meal. They went to Steak 'n Shake.
Deb Todd, an LCU photographer who accompanied the team to Indianapolis, shared the funny story with KFYO News at an event to honor the Lady Chaps Thursday on campus.
"Afterwards, they had a big old water fight in the locker room, and later that night we found out they were making a Steak 'n Shake run from the hotel down the street," Todd said. "They were a little excited to sleep that night."
Congratulations to the Lady Chaps. Victory is sweet, and so are shakes.
