It seems like this story is from years ago, but Jett Duffey and the story of the transfer portal is from this offseason.

After football season ended last November, Duffey entered the transfer portal. The former Red Raider QB committed to Tulane, but was denied admission. Central Michigan denied him admission after a story flared up about Title IX-related misconduct while at Texas Tech.

The Central Michigan news happened in February. Fast forward to July, and Duffey enrolled at Hampton University, which is an FCS program that competes in the Big South Conference. Then this happened:

According to a statement from Hampton Director of Athletics Eugene Marshall, Jr., it doesn't look like they'll be making up any games, either:

I hope this communication finds you and your loved ones well during this challenging time.  Out of concern for the spread of COVID-19 among our athletes and members of other HU constituent groups, all fall sports have been suspended.  If conditions permit, we anticipate resuming all athletic related activities during the spring semester 2021.  The spring semester will consist of both winter and spring sports.
Please understand that this decision was not taken lightly. But it was done in the best interest of our Hampton University students, student-athletes, faculty, staff, administration, alumni and fans.  I am extremely confident that we will work through these challenging times together!  Please stay in continuous communication with your coaches, academic support staff and athletic staff for updated information.  As well as providing us with the opportunity to see how you and your family are doing.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Jett Duffey left Texas Tech with a dark cloud over his head. Tulane and Central Michigan denied him, and now he's had a football season canceled before it can start at his new school.

Jett Duffey just can't catch a break.
