Jarrett Culver and Chris Beard Highlight Big 12 Awards
Just a day after winning the Big 12 Championship in Basketball Jarrett Culver and Coach Beard took home a couple more awards.
Culver, who had 10 games with 20 points or more, took home the Big 12 Player of the Year award. He averaged 18 points, 6 boards and almost 4 assists per game. His best game was the last one. The game to clinch the Big 12 Title. Culver dropped a career-high 31 points on the Cyclones and they were helpless to defend him. Culver led the Texas Tech team in points, rebounds and assists.
In Chris Beard's 3rd season in Lubbock as the head coach he's locked down his 2nd Big 12 Coach of the Year award, and this year he isn't sharing with anyone. The Red Raiders were predicted to finish 7th in the conference before the season, they finished first. They lost a lottery pick, 6 of the top 8 producers and 2 G League stars. The prized recruit wasn't healthy enough to play.
None of that mattered. Big 12 Champs.
The rest of the awards fell like this:
