The Study

The latest study from Wallethub lists the healthiest cities in America. Conversely, starting at the bottom you can see who the unhealthiest states are. Lubbock does not do well. As a matter of fact the Hub City places a miserable 135 out of 182. That's some real bottom dwelling for Lubbock.

The Categories

As usual, you can't blame Wallethub for not being thorough. They have four areas of scoring including healthcare, food, fitness, and green spaces. Inside those main areas are sub areas that help build the final score for each categories. From there, the four are average for an overall rating on the chart.

Where We're Terrible

You may not think something like "Green spaces" is a relevant to the discussion and that's why we're focused on the spot where we score the lowest and that's "food". This is the categories that really drags us down, with Lubbock placing 176 out of 182. So what makes up this category? Things like "share of obese residents" and "share of residents who say they eat healthy" sit alongside lesser categories like "gourmet specialty food stores per capita" and "healthy restaurants per capita".

Where We Do Well

There is one upside in all of this. Lubbock comes in at #56 for fitness. I guess it's all those people trying to work those unhealthy dinners off.
