I accidentally stumbled upon a treasure over the weekend.

I realize that I may be the umpteenth person to write about Chickies Tasty Treats, but that's okay. I feel like I need to bring the good word to the common man.

Of course, I've had Chickie's before. Their chocolates are popular gifts in my circle, and I've never had anything that wasn't amazing. However, there's a big difference between enjoying what someone else gives you and walking into a store and getting exactly what you want.

This weekend, I finally got to treat my palate to exactly what it was craving, and the experience was darn near overwhelming.

Here's Where I Learned How To Appreciate Chocolate

Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller once wrote an excellent essay about chocolate, and for some reason, it has really stuck with me. One of the things I took away from it was an appreciation for finer chocolates. After all, if you're going to treat yourself, you might as well treat yourself to the best.

Let's put this in numerical terms we can all understand.

A Hershey bar, which I love, is about a six. It's just a scootch above average, and that's perfectly okay. A Lindt milk chocolate bar is about an eight.

Chickies chocolate is an absolute ten.

My friends, chocolate should be creamy and velvety, not waxy. Until you've consciously slowed down, let a piece of really good chocolate melt in your mouth, and savored the experience, you don't know what you're missing.

I had a couple of chocolate, caramel, and sea salt creations from Chickies that were absolutely to die for. I'm talking serious last-wish, give-it-to-me-on-my-deathbed creations. They were THAT good.

Of course, there are about a hundred other tempting choices in the store, and you can put together little gift boxes for yourself or someone else. They've also got all kinds of fun stuff for the Halloween season.

Regrettably, I didn't take any pictures during my visit, but I do have an older photo gallery from Renee Raven to share with you.

If you've never been, Chickies is over by Guitar Center in Lubbock. It's absolutely worth seeking out.

Leave the fun-sized wax bars to the kids. Go get yourself some REAL chocolate.
