The Future of the Lubbock Municipal Auditorium & Coliseum Is in Your Hands
Early voting for the May 5th city and school elections starts Monday, April 23 and runs through Tuesday, May 1, 2018.
Among the candidates and issues on the ballot is the vote to (or NOT to) abandon and tear down the City of Lubbock Municipal Coliseum and Auditorium.
This has been a hot-button for some Lubbock residents simply because of the rich history these facilities represent. The City argues that it's too costly to maintain the facilities. But the City does not have the final say.
The City needs voter permission before moving forward with abandoning and tearing down the facilities. That’s where you and I come in. This is the time and place to let your voice be heard. While it’s great to share your opinion on social media and around the kitchen table, for your opinion to really count, it needs to be tallied at the voting booth.
I’ve been to many different events at the coliseum and auditorium over the years; it's really hard to think of just one. Out of the circuses, rodeos, and concerts, I think taking my son to see "Riverdance" many years ago stands out the most, simply because of the sheer joy it brought to him. And us attempting to Riverdance our way back to the car when it was over!
Let us know one of your favorite memories or concerts at the Lubbock Municipal Auditorium or Coliseum on the Awesome 98 Facebook page, then get out there and vote!
