Six years after Frenship ISD voters approved an $85.2 million bond package, FISD voters will again be asked to approve a bond package to help manage the district's growth.

Monday evening, the Frenship ISD Board of Trustees approved putting a $299.7 million bond up for voter approval on the Saturday, May 2, 2020 election date.

The bulk of the proposed 2020 bond package will consist of funds to build a second high school, a fourth middle school, convert the current Frenship ISD Ninth Grade Center into the new Frenship Middle School, build a ninth elementary school, and construct various renovations to existing campuses including Frenship High School.

The Frenship Ninth Grade Center was the centerpiece of the district's 2014 bond package. It opened across the street from Frenship High School in 2017 with over 700 students, and has a listed capacity of 1,000 students.

Before the construction of the Ninth Grade Center, Frenship High School had a listed capacity of 2,550 students. After 2017, FHS' capacity increased to 3,400 students and the district expects to be over-capacity at FHS in 2023. Earlier this school year, Frenship ISD turned in a student enrollment figure of 2,772 for FHS for the 2020-2022 UIL Realignment.

The second high school for Frenship ISD is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2024, if the bond package is approved by voters.

Frenship ISD's overall student growth has averaged 3.45%, per year, over the past nine school years. In the 2009-10 school year, Frenship ISD had a total of 7,339 students. That increased to 9,955 students in the 2018-19 school year, with the district expected to break the 10,000 threshold in 2019-2020.
