Freezing Weather Is Probably Not in the Cards for Lubbock This Weekend
I'm stepping out on a limb here, but I think warnings about a possible freeze may be exaggerated a bit.
Make no mistake, it's certainly going to get colder than it's been in a minute, but everything I see shows it falling short of freezing in the Hub City.
Everything Lubbock reports that the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning, and Lubbock County is part of that. I took a look and I sure don't see what they're seeing.
I examined the hour-by-hour weather from the Weather Channel and the coldest it shows us getting is about 40 degrees between 6 and 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, with a quick dip down to 40 Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
I have no problem with the colder weather. I love the fact that we'll have a beautiful fall evening in the mid 50s tonight (Yeah! Hoodie weather!), but I can't be the only one wondering why we're under a freeze warning. These days, forecasters seem to be pretty on point with the temperatures, and there's a big space between 40 and freezing.
Let's all consider this a drill just in case. Now would be a good time to get in the habit of making sure your pet's water doesn't freeze, that outdoor pipes are covered, and maybe remembering to open a cabinet with pipes near outdoor walls to let a little heat in. Being prepared never hurt anyone and one of these days it may save you a ton of trouble.
Whatever this little cold front is, it seems to be temporary, with a high on Saturday back to 71 degrees before inching all the way back to 85 by Tuesday.
