Former Texas Tech Football Coach Elected to the College Football Hall of Fame

Former Texas Tech head coach Jerry Moore was selected for induction to the College Football Hall of Fame by the National Football Foundation on Thursday.  Moore was at the helm of the Red Raider football program from 1981-1985 in which he held a 16-37-2 record.

It was what he did at Appalachian State though that earned him a spot in the Hall of Fame.  There he compiled a 215-87 record in his 24 seasons coaching the Mountaineers (1989-2012), including 10 SoCon championships, 18 postseason appearances and an unprecedented three-straight NCAA Division I FCS/I-AA national titles from 2005-2007.  He also coached at the University of North Texas from 1979 and 1980.

Generally, coaches are not eligible for induction until three years following their exit from coaching but coaches over 70 years of age become eligible immediately following the end of their coaching careers.  Schools submitted nominations for the Hall's Class of 2014 last fall and Moore was elected from a national ballot that included 162 players and 12 coaches.
