Former Red Raider second baseman Jamodrick McGruder joined the Williams & Hyatt Show Monday afternoon to discuss life after Texas Tech, playing pro ball, whose swing he’d emulate if he could and much more.

McGruder was taken in the 9th round (281 overall) by the Seattle Mariners in the second day of Major League Baseball’s First Year Players Draft. His selection made him the second highest middle infielder drafted in Texas Tech history and fifth highest drafted infielder in school history.

He is currently a member of the Mariners Short-Season A classification team in the Northwest League, the Evertt Aquasox, along with fellow former Red Raider pitcher Rusty Shellhorn.

McGruder has already become a local fan favorite picking up a nickname.

He discusses one of the differences between facing collegiate pitchers vs pro pitchers. Location, location, location.

McGruder also walks us through his thought process in an at bat and gives us the reason he would emulate Jose Reyes’s swing.
