Former Red Raider AJ Ramos Heading to the Show with the Miami Marlins
Former Texas Tech right-handed pitcher AJ Ramos got the phone call that all baseball players dream of over the holiday weekend when the Florida Marlins informed him he has been called up to the big leagues.
The 25-year-old will be activated Tuesday in the midst of the Marlins four-game homestand with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Ramos becomes the 23rd Texas Tech player to make their MLB debut, and the fourth in the last three years.
The relief-pitcher was an All-Star this season with the Jacksonville Suns in Double-A where he was among the Southern League leaders in numerous statistical categories with a 1.44 ERA in 55 appearances with 21 saves, 68.2 innings pitched, 89 strikeouts and just 21 walks while opponents hit just .151.
Ramos pitched for the Red Raiders from 2006-09, leading the program in wins (8), innings pitched (88.0) and strikeouts (83) in 2007.
