Early Voting Turnout About Average in Lubbock County for Upcoming Election

The "off-year" Texas Constitutional Amendment election cycles traditionally see lower numbers of people voting in Lubbock, and across the rest of the state.

However, this year in Lubbock County, there's more than just a set of proposed Texas Constitutional Amendments on the ballot.

Voters that live within in the City of Lubbock are considering approval of a $174.5 million bond for street repairs and improvements. Portions of Erskine, 34th Street, East 82nd Street, 114th Street, and Broadway would be improved as part of the bond package.

Lubbock County voters will be considering a property tax referendum, which would increase property taxes to fund salary increase for the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office. If voters approve the property tax referendum, the property tax rate in Lubbock County would increase to $.359990 per $100 valuation for property in Lubbock County.

Voters in New Deal ISD will be considering approval of a $48.5 million bond.  If New Deal ISD voters approve the bond, the money would be used for a number of items, including: demolishing the current Elementary/Middle School building and constructing a new one; demolishing the current Band Hall and building a new one; demolishing the current transportation facility and building a new one. Also, a new cafeteria would be constructed along with a new competition gym.

Finally, back in September, Shallowater officials cancelled an election that would had voters decide on a proposed sales tax increase for their city.
