An unidentified driver of an 18-wheeler was injured Monday night (July 2) in Lubbock when the vehicle overturned on East Loop 289 near Southeast Drive.

Emergency crews responded to the wreck near the East 50th Street exit of Loop 289 around 6:15 p.m. The driver was trapped for two hours as emergency crews worked to free the person from the vehicle.

Initial reports say the 18-wheeler was traveling south on Loop 289 when it crossed the median facing on-coming traffic, then drove onto a hill where it rolled. The driver was eventually freed from the truck, but his condition is currently unknown.

Texas Department of Transportation crews will have to make repairs to the guard rail on that portion of East Loop 289.
