Talk about a scary phone call! 'You are about to be arrested for taxes,' it claims. Check out this call that came into one of my household's smartphones yesterday.

The people who pull this kind of thing need to be strung up. The elderly, the uninformed and those without resources to check it out could legitimately be frightened by this kind of thing.

I did not call the number back. Instead, I typed it into a browser and a very cool website called whycallme.com. It kicked back results saying that 25 percent of the people who turned the number in reported it as a scammer. Another website called whocallsphone.com and a third called findwhocallsyou.com had similar results.

I can't say for sure what would happen if the number was called back. But in some of these types of scams, you can find yourself hit with a huge charge for calling in.

Here's a transcription of the phone call:

Hi this is the tax crime investigation unit of  IRS. The reason you are receiving this pre-recorded (audio dropped out) that IRS has issued an arrest warrant against you right now you and your physical property those are being monitored and it's very important that I do hear back from you as soon as possible before we proceed further in any legal matter. My direct call back number is 253-220-4553 again, the number is 253-220-4553.
