Dez Bryant Does Not Agree With His Madden 17 Rating
Dez Bryant, who got a concussion on Monday, will not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Seahawks, but he promises he's OK. What he's not OK with is his rating in Madden 17.
According to NFL.com, Bryant is none too happy about his 90 overall rating.
"It is what it is," Bryant said. "We're just going to see what happens. Like I told Madden, they put me at 90, I'm not worried about that. That rating going to shoot up real quick, you best believe that."
(Editor's note: Yes, this is a real story, and Bryant really said these things.)
We already know who the fastest man in Madden 17 is, but does Dez have any validation to being ranked better than 90?
There are at least seven receivers ranked better than Bryant: Antonio Brown (97), Julio Jones (96), A.J. Green (93), Odell Beckham Jr. (93), DeAndre Hopkins (93), Larry Fitzgerald (91) and Alshon Jeffery (91). All very good players, but are they all better than Dez Bryant?
The answer is no. Obviously. Madden, however, is a fickle mistress who demoted Bryant's rating from a 96 in 2015 to this season's 90. In 2015, he was bugged by injuries and terrible quarterback play. This season he's healthy (well, besides the concussion he got Monday) and looks to have good/great quarterback play.
There's no love lost between Madden and Bryant, though.
"I play Madden, I f---ing love Madden," he said. "They would do me like that? Oh my God. That is an insult, like why would you do that to me? How much I love y'all. Like what? Not John Madden, because I love him. It's the developers." (Editor's note no. 2: Yes, he actually said all this, too, albeit jokingly.)
This might seem ridiculous to some, but elite players take offense to things like this and turn it into fuel for the fire.
Michael Jordan was infamous for finding negative quotes among all of the positive press and using that as bulletin board material. Hopefully, Bryant takes this non-story and turns it into a career year.
