Dallas Cowboys Lasso Star Running Back During Day 2 of the NFL Draft

Day 2 of the horribly prolonged 2011 NFL Draft took place Friday night in New York City.

The Dallas Cowboys split their two picks between offense and defense in the 2nd and 3rd Rounds.

In the 2nd Round, the Cowboys took linebacker Bruce Carter from North Carolina.  The NFL Network says the Cowboys got a steal in taking Carter, "He is a freakish athlete with outstanding speed, quickness and explosiveness."  If Carter can contribute in year one, I see the Cowboys defense improving.

In the 3rd Round, with the 71st pick overall, the Cowboys drafted Oklahoma running back DeMarco Murray.  In four years with the Sooners, Murray scored 50 rushing touchdowns and rushed for over 3,000 yards.  I was surprised to see Murray drop to the 3rd round, but the Cowboys made a good pick.  Also, with the way the modern NFL plays, you can never have too many running backs.

The third and final day of the NFL Draft takes place today, encompassing the 4th through 7th Rounds.  I would expect it to be a pretty uneventful day for the Cowboys as Head Coach Jason Garrett completes his first draft.
