Dallas Baptist Beats Texas Tech Baseball to Force Winner-Takes-All Regional Final
Texas Tech's struggles to find consistent starting pitching past Davis Martin and Steven Gingery continued on Sunday night with Dallas Baptist notching 10 runs on 13 hits, beating Texas Tech 10-6.
The loss forces Texas Tech to face DBU one more time on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The DBU Patriots scored seven runs in the first three innings and three in the sixth leading the entire way.
Texas Tech made it interesting in the seventh inning, scoring six runs and pulling the lead within four runs.
The early lead was enough for starter MD Johnson to earn the win after allowing four runs off five hits, four walks and seven strikeouts over his 6.1 innings. Gavin Fritz helped the Patriots escape the jam in the seventh as he earned the save after tossing the final 2.1 innings.
Tech starter Ty Damron suffered the loss as he was replaced to start the third inning after surrendering four runs off four hits and a walk. Ty Harpenau tossed 3.1 innings of relief before Jacob Patterson and Dalton Brown combined to toss 2.2 shutout innings to close the game.
Six different Patriots finished at least two hits in the win as Dallas Baptist totaled 13 hits overall. Hannah Jameson powered the Patriots offensively with a 2 for 4 performance that included a game-high three RBI.
The good news about the rematch is that the game will be the fifth of the weekend for the Patriots and just the fourth of the weekend for the Red Raiders.
The last man standing for Texas Tech on the mound will be Ryan Moseley. Expect heavy doses of Robert Dugger and Hayden Howard as well.
