Colts’ QB Peyton Manning Has More Neck Surgery

Indianapolis Pro-Bowl QB Peyton Manning has elected to undergo more neck surgery Thursday, for his third surgery in the past 19 months, with no timetable set for his return back to the Colts.

Manning decided to have the procedure after consulting with a half-dozen physicians who reportedly reached a consensus that the most viable option for Manning would be a one-level cervical neck fusion in the wake of his May 23 surgery to repair a bulging disk.

The team said in a statement Thursday that the surgery was “uneventful” and that it would not place Manning on season-ending injured reserve and instead keep him on the active roster.

Manning had already been ruled out of Sunday’s season opener at Houston, ending a streak of 227 consecutive starts including playoffs—the league’s second-longest for a quarterback behind Brett Favre.
