Child Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested 17 Years After Allegations Were Made

An Abilene man accused of sexually assaulting a child in 2001 was recently arrested in 2018.

KAMC News reports (via KTAB/KRBC) that 47-year-old Kerry Sims (pictured above) was arrested and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child last week.

Court records say a 9-year-old victim made sexual assault accusations in 2001, claiming that Sims assaulted her for years, but later retracted her statement, saying she had lied.

Police re-opened the case in January 2018 and contacted the victim. She re-confirmed the original allegations, saying that Sims sexually assaulted her multiple times a week for three years.

Sims is currently being held in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling more than $100,000. Jail records also show Sims on an Evading Arrest charge.
