Alexi Ogando Loses 3rd Straight as New York Mets Blow Out the Texas Rangers

Alexi Ogando still can't find his rythm, losing his 3rd straight start. The New York Mets scored 8 runs in the 6th inning to dismantle the Texas Rangers, 14-5.

The game started out bad for Ogando, who at one point in the season looked like an all-star. Ogando went 3 innings for the Rangers before being taken out. He gave up 6 runs on 8 hits and now drops his record on the season to 7-3 and jumps his ERA up to 2.87.

Ogando had this to say about his bad start and last 3 starts through an interpreter:

"I was falling behind in the count, so I had to come over the plate. I'm not doing my job these last three outings, I have to keep working."

This is a season high run total for the Mets and their 17 hits are also a season high. This is the first time the Mets have scored more than 9 runs in over 100 games. Their last +9 came September 9th in a 18-5 win against the Chicago Cubs.

Reigning American League MVP Josh Hamilton continues to struggle during home games. Hamilton went 0-4 at the plate yesterday, with all his at bats ending in strike outs. Hamilton is hitting .113 (6-for-53) with 21 strikeouts in 15 day games this season. The normally blue-eyed Hamilton was the Designated Hitter during the game and tried some red-tinted contact lenses (seen right) to help him see better in the day but it clearly didn't help.

While it was a bad loss for the Rangers, Nelson Cruz and Michael Young continue to excel in interleague play. Young went 3-4 on the day, including a solo home run immediately following Adrain Beltre's solo shot that put the Rangers on the board in the 4th. Nelson Cruz also had a home run in the game to bring his season total up to 18. Cruz's homerun came in the 8th to score Young and give us the games final of 14-5.

The rubber match will be today at 2 o'clock. Derek Holland (6-2 and 4.69 ERA) will be going to the mound for the Rangers while Dillon Gee (7-1 and 3.21 ERA) will be pitching for the Mets.
