When I first saw the possibility of Adonis Arms transferring to Texas Tech from Winthrop, I was intrigued. Not because he's 6’6” with a big wingspan and ridiculous hops, but solely based on his name.

Adonis Arms is an all-time great name for a basketball player. For any human, really. He could be an accountant and I'd still be enamored with his name. Now that he's officially signed with Texas Tech, I'd like to offer his name as the first entry on the All-Big 12 Name Team.

In all seriousness, besides the perfect name, Arms will bring an athletic veteran presence to this Red Raider roster. Arms averaged 10 points and nearly five rebounds a game last year at Winthrop, who went 23-2 and won the Big South before losing the 12-5 matchup in the NCAA Tournament to 5-seed Villanova.

"I want to first thank God for the opportunity to play in the Big 12 at Tech with its great fans who always show support," Arms told TexasTech.com. "I want to thank my family as well for being the best support system ever. I see myself as a versatile player so I can help anywhere."

Arms is a well-traveled college basketball player starting at the JUCO level with two seasons at Mesa Community College in Arizona. As a sophomore, Arms was named the team’s MVP and moved on to Northwest Nazarene University where he exploded onto the scene, earning both Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year awards. Arms averaged 20 points per game in his only season at NNU.

Finally, Arms transferred to Winthrop, where he sat out a year and then played a single season at Winthrop.

Adonis Arms joins KJ Allen, Chandler Jacobs and Ethan Duncan as Mark Adams' first four signees as head coach of Texas Tech’s men's basketball.
