Why Was the Lubbock Bomb Squad Called to The Texas Tech Campus?
Texas Tech students had to be evacuated from a building on campus after a package caused some concerns. Local law enforcement was dispatched at 7:03 p.m. Thursday, October 26, along with a TechAlert! urging Texas Tech students in the area near Holden hall to evacuate from the building immediately. According to The Daily Toreador, a suspicious package was reported to have been found in the area and is the source of what caused the initial evacuation.
After the package was reported a second TechAlert! was sent out at 7:37 p.m. to let those subscribed to the alert know of the situation and what was currently happening in the Holden Hall area. The TechAlert! system was able to issue another alert at 7:54 p.m. letting students, and those signed up for the service, that the Lubbock Police Department's bomb squad was going to enter the building to search the package.
Officers with Texas Tech campus police were eventually able to give the all clear to students before leaving the building. KAMC news did report that there was no immediate threat to the campus after the bomb squad was able to thoroughly inspect the package. A final TechAlert! was issued at 8:20 p.m. notifying subscribers that the threat of any danger had been cleared. As of now there is no word on what was inside of the package but it was no danger to the campus or any students.
