Lubbock Teacher Has Powerful Message to Students Who’re Angry Over Her Firing
Students of the Vogue College of Cosmetology in Lubbock walked out of class on Tuesday in protest over the termination of a head educator at the school.
One student told KCBD News that they left "because it wasn't right at all." A couple more shared their grievances over teacher Amber Solis' firing on their personal Facebook pages.
According to the report, students claimed they were told they would face suspension if they spoke to KCBD, but apparently that wasn't enough to persuade them from telling their story.
Student Kiara Brown told KCBD, "Amber is probably one of the only educators there that goes the extra mile to genuinely help the students out." She went on to say: "I feel like Amber was our last leg of hope that we had in our school."
94.5 FMX reached out to Solis for comment about the protest, and her response reveals what makes her such a special educator.
“Unfortunately, things happen sometimes that we don't all agree with right or wrong, but what I ask from them is continue to get the education that is going to have them succeed in a career they have chosen," Solid told FMX. "I am thankful to be a part of their journey and I will still continue to be there, regardless of the situation. Don't let this setback control your destiny and future. Love you lots guys, now get it done."
We need more teachers like Amber Solis in the world.
