Vanderbilt Defeats North Carolina 7-3 in Game 1 of College World Series

The Vanderbilt Commodores christened brand new TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, NE with a 7-3 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels in Game 1 of pool play at the College World Series.

Former President George W. Bush threw out the first pitch of the brand new $131 million ballpark replaces historic Rosenblatt Stadium, which hosted the College World Series from 1950 to 2010, opened to a near sellout of 22,745 fans in attendance.

Freshman lead off hitter Tony Kemp led the Commodores going 3 for 4 at the plate and Connor Harrell hit the first home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to give Vanderbilt a 5-3 lead. On the mound for the Commodores Sophomore Corey Williams picked up the victory in relief throwing 2 2/3 innings with no runs given up on a walk and 5 strike outs.
