United Supermarkets announced Thursday (October 8th) that pharmacies inside United Supermarkets, Market Street, and Amigos locations in Lubbock, and other locations throughout Texas, have begun selling at-home testing kits for COVID-19.

In partnership with Phosphorus Diagnostics, United Pharmacies begun selling the kits this past Monday.

According to a press release sent Thursday, the at-home kits are designed to meet the needs of customers who prefer no lines and no nasal swab:

“We feel these testing kits will help meet the needs of our guests as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the advantages of these at-home testing kits include no appointments, no lines and best of all, no uncomfortable nasal swab.”  -Tim Purser, Director of Pharmacy

So how does it work? If you're interested in taking the at-home test, United Supermarkets says to visit scheduletest.com in order to complete a medical form and to request the test.

A pharmacist with the United Family will make sure all the information is authentic, then review and order the test. Customers will then be contacted about payment. After being notified that the test kit is ready, guests can either pick the test kit up or have it delivered or shipped to their home address.

After receiving an at-home coronavirus test kit, people will provide a sample collection and send it to the lab within a prepaid envelope. The samples collected will be saliva-based and not the traditional nose swab. United Supermarkets said that within 72 hours or less, customers will have the results. After receiving the results, a United Supermarkets pharmacist will be able to answer questions.

As of the publication of this story, United is not able to bill insurance for the tests, which means customers will have to pay out of pocket. However, customers can submit receipts to their insurance company for reimbursement.
