UIL Is Close to Making Decision About Fall Sports

Back in March, the UIL postponed and eventually canceled all activities due to the first big wave of the coronavirus in Texas. Now, four months later, another wave of the virus is sweeping Texas and is still threatening to affect the way schools can conduct their business at hand.
This includes extracurricular activities in the fall: football, volleyball, cross country and marching band, just to name a few.
The UIL hasn't released any new information about the start of the fall sports season since it allowed in-person summer workouts to resume last month. Thomas Jones of the Austin American-Statesman has reported on Twitter that the UIL is close to making an announcement, and that it could come as soon as Monday, July 20th.
Jones said the UIL is meeting with state officials and Governor Abbott as they try to decide how to approach the upcoming school year and sports on campus. Across the state, school districts have been making individual decisions on when they'll start sports in the fall. Hopefully, the UIL announcement will add some clarity to what will happen when school openings (possibly) begin in August.
The UIL has already amended eligibility, and the Lubbock ISD has said that online learners would have the opportunity to play in-person sports.
