Two Suspects Arrested in Connection with Local Drive-By Shooting
Lubbock police have made two arrests regarding a drive-by shooting that occurred in East Lubbock on Tuesday, May 5th.
Officers responded to 911 calls about an alleged drive-by shooting in the 1900 block of 37th Street at around 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday. At that time it was unclear how many people may have been involved. Initial information suggested multiple shots had been fired from a car as it drove by and then sped off west on 37th Street.
A 16-year-old girl was shot and injured during the incident and multiple vehicles in the area were damaged by stray bullets. The wounded teenager was being taken by car to a local hospital when a nearby ambulance was flagged down and able to take her instead. She is said to have serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect’s vehicle that fled the scene was later found by police at 11:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Parkway Drive, but the suspects were no-where to be found. Now, the LPD reports that at least two suspects have been arrested, and KAMC News reports there may be more arrests forthcoming.
Eighteen-year-old Deangiilo Hill and 17-year-old Treveon Tyler are now in custody at the Lubbock County Detention Center. They both face charges of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting, and Tyler faces an additional charge of possession of a stolen firearm. It’s reported that police were able to secure a warrant for Hill’s arrest on Wednesday, and then Tyler’s on Thursday.
Both the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office and the new Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center have been reportedly assisting the LPD with the investigation.
