There Are Now Two Lubbock County Contenders in Texas Monthly’s 2019 BBQ Bracket

The Texas Monthly 2019 Readers Choice BBQ Bracket has officially been seeded, and round 1 voting has begun.

This year, Lubbock County residents are likely to find at least two familiar names on the bracket.

The contender from Wolfforth, Texas is none other than Evie Mae's BBQ, located at the corner of FM179 and Marsha Sharp Freeway.

This honey hole of a hungry man's (or woman's) dream is one of my favorites, so naturally it was an easy vote against their competition in this round, which is some place in Austin called Loro.

Evie Mae's was qualified as a contender when they were listed on the 2017 Top 50 Barbecue Joints in Texas. We believe they will easily advance to Round 2.

The next contender from the Lubbock area comes all the way from Slaton, Texas.

Pitforks & Smokerings BBQ is located at 1808 US-84, which is between 9th and 11th Streets on the east side of the highway. It happens to be just south of another well known meat eatery in Slaton called Klemkes, which didn't make the bracket this year.

Pitforks & Smokerings BBQ was listed on Texas Monthly's 2019 Top 25 New Barbecue Joints in Texas.

I'll admit that I haven't personally tried this new restaurant yet, but if they're in the running and made the top 25 new BBQ joints, I can bet they are "bad to the bone."

They are competing against Heim Barbecue from Fort Worth, and since they're from East Texas and not West Texas, I'm just going to call this one for the home team and predict their advancement to Round 2.
