Texas Tech University’s Office of Communications and Marketing and the College of Arts & Sciences each won a bronze award at the 38th Annual Telly Awards, marking the second straight year Texas Tech has been recognized in the widely known and highly respected national and international competition.

The Office of Communications and Marketing’s “2016 Texas Tech University PSA” was honored in the Craft-Videography/Cinematography category.

"We are honored that the commercial received national recognition for the second year in a row," said Michelle Hougland, assistant managing director of the Office of Communications and Marketing. "Our team worked diligently on researching and developing a commercial that would not only be visually appealing, but would also resonate with the many audiences who love Texas Tech."

The College of Arts & Sciences was honored in the General-Fundraising category for its video, "Unmasking Innovation: The Campaign For Arts & Sciences," which kicked off the college's fundraising effort last year.

"As director of marketing for the College of Arts & Sciences, Blayne Beal has brought his talent and a dynamic perspective to communicating the college’s vision, goals and needs," said Dean W. Brent Lindquist. "He has forged a strong bond between the college marketing, alumni relations and development teams to create extremely effective outreach."

Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards are the premier awards honoring outstanding content for TV and cable, digital and streaming, and non-broadcast distribution. The Telly Awards annually showcase the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world. This year, it received more than 12,000 entries from all 50 U.S. states and five continents.

A prestigious judging panel of more than 600 industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of the Silver Telly Council, judged the competition. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work. Entries do not compete against each other, rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10 percent of entries are chosen as winners of a Silver Telly, the highest honor. Other outstanding work is awarded a Bronze Telly.
