Texas Tech is not requiring that students who attend classes or any on campus event get vaccinated against COVID-19, but would really like for everyone to get vaccinated. The school is even offering incentives to students, faculty, and staff to get the shot.

Texas Tech University announced Monday, August 9th, that it's encouraging the entire on-campus community, including students, staff and faculty, to get vaccinated as the delta variant of the novel coronavirus spreads across Lubbock and just about everywhere else in the United States.

In the announcement, Texas Tech attempted to educate the university community about the spread of the delta variant and that the vaccine has shown to reduce the severity of COVID-19. Texas Tech encouraged the community to look into getting one of the three currently available vaccines: Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson. Then, Texas Tech announced the incentives for those being vaccinated:

In an effort to get more members of our university community fully vaccinated, Texas Tech is offering an incentives program for current students, faculty, and staff that are fully vaccinated. The first drawing will be held on Sept. 15 to allow time for you to obtain your vaccination. If you have already been vaccinated, you can begin the entry process now.

The university will be hosting campus vaccination clinics or you can receive your vaccine through your physician or your local pharmacy.

There are many prizes available for students as well as faculty and staff. For students, some of the prizes include Student Scholarship Awards of up to $3,000 and dining bucks. For faculty and staff, prizes include sports tickets, tickets to the Buddy Holly Hall and more.

The Student Health Services website has more information about the incentive program.
