Behren Morton is a junior at Eastland High School and a 4-star QB. He's the son of James Morton, who coached at Monterey and Midland Lee before going to Eastland in 2016. Behren Morton is also a future Red Raider.

Now, this is just a verbal commitment and situations are fluid, but for now this is a huge win for a new coaching staff that was beleaguered early on for not being able to recruit in Texas. Obviously, that notion is dissipating with every passing Texas native who commits to the Red Raiders.

The 4-star QB will be the linchpin of the 2021 class and could be instrumental in the Matt Wells Era.

The 2020 class will be the first full year for Wells in Lubbock, but the 2021 class will be the first full cycle he'll be a part of with the Red Raiders. If that class can be a great one, Texas Tech can pick up serious momentum as a program.

That's a future thought, though. The current thought is that Morton is really good.

Listed at 6'2" and 185 lbs as a junior, Morton isn't done growing. His Eastland team is 6-0, and he's thrown for more than 1,600 yards, with 16 touchdowns and one interception. He's also added four touchdowns on the ground.

Behren was in Waco this weekend and on hand for the Texas Tech game as a Baylor recruit, so the timing on the commitment was that much sweeter. He was also offered by TCU, Kansas, Texas A&M, USC, Washington State, SMU and Nevada just to name a few.
