Thursday afternoon, the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents met in the first of two days of scheduled meetings in Lubbock.

The regents, after listening to a presentation by Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt, unanimously approved modifying its concessions contract with Philadelphia, PA-based Spectra. Specifically, to allow the sale of beer and wine for general seating areas at Texas Tech University athletic events. (You can watch the video of Hocutt's presentation in the video below.)

Once the sale of alcohol is allowed for general seating, fans would no longer be allowed to leave the stadium and re-enter during athletic events.

Hocutt is also seeking to work with Spectra to lower the price of various concessions at athletic events.

Texas Tech's fellow Big 12 Conference schools Texas, West Virginia and Oklahoma State already sell alcohol to general seating areas for athletic events.

The changes to concessions at Texas Tech athletic events will take effect in 2019, most likely at the start of football season.
