The night of Tuesday, December 15th, the Lubbock City Council set the date for a special election that will decide whether or not to outlaw abortions within city limits.
Mayor Dan Pope and members of the city council cite conflict with Supreme Court ruling, and potential legal issues, in rejecting proposed ordinance to ban abortions in Lubbock.
Over 5,000 signatures have been submitted by petition organizers in support of an ordinance to make Lubbock a "sanctuary city for the unborn," making abortions illegal within the city.
